A sapling grown from the last standing Liberty Tree (Annapolis, Maryland) was planted in the Bedford Memorial Park (cemetery) in Bedford Borough. It was dedicated on 26 April 2025 in a ceremony starting at 10:00am. The Bedford Lodge No. 320 Free and Accepted Masons of Pennsylvania were joined at the dedication by Bob and Treena Webb representing the America250PA project for Bedford County.
Note: The actual Liberty Tree, which until recently stood on the campus of St. John's College, and from which the sapling was acquired, was destroyed by Hurricane Floyd in 1999. At that time, cuttings were taken from the venerable old tree and saplings grown from them.
The Free and Accepted Masons of Pennsylvania, working with the America250PA project are supplying saplings of the Liberty Tree to all 67 counties in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
The Bedford County Commissioners have named Bob Webb to be the representative for Bedford County on the County Advisory Committee (in the place of Larry D. Smith).
Disillusioned with the direction that the America250PA Project was going, Larry D. Smith decided to end his involvement with the project. This website will continue to be maintained and will continue to report on the America250PA Project. Note: Any person interested in representing Bedford County in the America250PA Project should notify the Bedford County Commissioners of their interest.
The committee decides to concentrate on a single day event rather than on numerous events scattered throughout the year of 2026.
In the year 2021, after having organized and managed Bedford County's Sestercentennial (the 250th Anniversary), Larry D. Smith contacted the Bedford County Commissioners to offer his services with this upcoming national celebration.
